We welcomed two new rescues this week.

Both cases started with the same scenario: we received a call for help because there was a dog lying on the side of a road.

Memphis was brought in by a Good Samaritan because we didn’t have the resources to go and pick up the injured dog.

Sylvie immediately took Memphis to Dr. Lało for X-rays, as he was unable to walk and was confused. He looked like he was hit by a car. X-rays excluded fractures, so he was most likely hit on his head, where he suffers from hematoma.

He was given steroids and pain killers, so now we are waiting to see how he responds.

The other call was for Zenzi: he was bitten by another dog, and as he was running away, he was hit by a car.
Sylvie picked him up off the street and again, immediately brought him to Dr. Lało.

Zenzi suffers from multiple fractures. He has injuries to his right front leg and a more devastating one to his spine. We temporarily immobilized his front leg because we didn’t know if he would make it. Sylvie noticed he was moving his back legs, so she felt hopeful that he could survive even if he is not going to walk normally.

Our rescues are victims of violence and harsh life of the streets. We want to help, but our ability is limited. We need YOUR help 🙏

We welcomed many new dogs this week. One of them is Dante, a street dog who was attacked by badger. We got a call to help him, but we had our hands full, so our wonderful friends Rosie and Karen picked him up off the street and took him to Dr. Lalo to get his wounds surgically cleaned.

Again, our shelter is full. We have no available kennels. We have dogs sleeping in dog crates in the laundry room and hallways. We couldn’t let him go back to the streets because he needs to recover; he has so many stitches that needs to be rechecked.
So welcome, Dante and we need to run diagnostic tests, vaccinate him, deworm him, and (once healthy) neuter him.

We recently received numerous phone calls from concerned people regarding poisoned dogs lying on streets. One of the dogs was a puppy who didn’t make it as help came too late.

Last night, someone left a poisoned female dog overnight in front of our shelter door, and by the time we arrived at 7am, she had passed away. She was a young beautiful dog and must have just given birth to her puppies… She died in agony from the poison… we were so heartbroken and felt so hopeless….

Killing these innocent dogs by poisoning them, leading to agonizing and prolonged deaths is not a solution to overpopulation!!! Spaying and neutering is the solution!

We apologized to the deceased mama for the cruelty she experienced and buried her with dignity.

Rest in peace, innocent mama.

We have one survivor of poisoning- older pup who we named King.
Concerned volunteer found him lying on a street so she immediately brought him to animal clinic where he received treatment and our vet Dr Rodrigo took over the care of him. One dog saved from cruel death!
Welcome King. You are safe and we make everything we can that you will enjoy your senior years.
