Since 2011, Sos el Arca Animal Rescue, Playa del Carmen, rescues street dogs and cats who are hurt, diseased and hungry. They receive veterinarian care and sanctuary until we find loving homes. Impoverished communities of Playa benefit from our monthly Spay and Neuter Campaigns to reduce the street animal population.

Volunteers are a crucial element of our work! Every Saturday from 11:30am till 3:00pm we have Doggy Baths where volunteers give our shelter dogs baths and take them for walks.
It’s vital time they wait all week and crucial work to keep the dogs clean and healthy. The dogs learn that humans are good and volunteers help erase negative memories our rescues have.
Our dogs rely on volunteer support greatly, and we cannot say thank you enough to EVERY SINGLE VOLUNTEER for their love and attention given to each dog.
We—and our dogs—cannot wait to see you today 🙏❤️🐾

Yo la verdad si quisiera ir pero x mi trabajo no puedo x el horario…y otra cosa no me gusta ver a los perritos y gatitos encerrados o que están huérfanos y quisiera llevármelos todos o definitivamente lloraría solo x verlos que están huérfanos…tengo 2 perritas y 1 gato y contrabajo puedo con los 3 si no fuera x el dinero estaría con varios en casa.
Meet Bowie, a beautiful young boy with stunning blue eyes who mesmerizes us with his David Bowie looks.
It’s so heartwarming to see Bowie thriving after overcoming multiple injuries due to being hit by a car and left on the side of the side road.
We immediately rescued this poor boy and gave him urgent care and shelter. He underwent left front leg reconstructive surgery due to a dislocated fracture, and right front leg skin and bone graft surgery.
We took care of him after surgery following the post op protocol as well. Now he is a happy and healthy boy!
It takes hard work, sweat, and tears to save street dogs.
Currently, our shelter is overcrowded with 204 dogs and 60 cats, and understaffed. Donations have been unfortunately low.

SOS El Arca Animal Rescue held its 29th Spay/Neuter Campaign, sponsored by Marchig Animal Welfare Trust& Foundation Marchig.
There were 360 spayed/neutered animals in just 2 days!!!
Out of the 360 animals operated on that weekend, 109 were strays captured by independent animal lovers who caught them, brought them in to the campaign, are now taking care of them post-operatively, and will then release them once they're recovered.
Thank you to Marchig Animal Welfare Trust & Foundation Marchig, for funding this campaign !!! We couldn't have done it without you !!!
And thank you to all the volunteers and local rescuers for your tireless work to make this campaign possible !!!
We are so grateful for each and every one of you for your hard work and commitment to making this change TOGETHER so these animals will have a better life 🙏❤️
Total of 11 706 animals have been spayed/neutered since the first massive Spay/Neuter Campaign held in February 2022!!!
